A few obvious points. First, Ukraine can't use Western mine-clearing equipment because Russian air assets dominate the skies (drones and fighter jets and attack helicopters). So Job One is removing every single Russian from Ukrainian soil. Second, as Russians put the mines there, Russians can - post crushing defeat - be required to de-mine Ukraine. If it costs thousands of Russian lives, too bad. The villain needs to pay for the crime.

What this implies is that NATO needs to stop being so pusillanimous and get into the game. Russia needs to be eradicated as a nation and removed from the board as a military force. Until this happens, atrocities will continue indefinitely.
