A good article, Jorgen. You could also have cited the study regarding people at a county fair estimating the weight of a bull. Livestock farmers produced guesses that trended toward the right answer but people who knew nothing about livestock produced absurd answers. As the average person knows nothing about anything at all, and as politicians have a strong incentive to lie to the credulous, it's obvious that the fundamental basis of representative democracy is guaranteed to produce abysmal outcomes - which is precisely what we've seen over the last 200+ years despite our increasingly desperate attempts to tell ourselves comforting fairytales.
