A nice article, Ella, right up to the point where you talk about humans trying to survive billions of years from now. Let’s face it, we’re probably done in the next few hundred because our tiny ape-brains can’t adapt to the technologically sophisticated world we’ve accidentally created around us. Even if we survive in some way, the oldest known species on Earth (the Nautilus) is a mere 400 million years old. Biological life simply won’t be around over the timescales covered in your piece, and it’s mere anthropocentricism that causes any reference to humanity to be inserted at the end of what otherwise was an interesting article.
