A nice article, Lisa. As a 61-year-old man who runs twice a week (around 10 miles per time) and goes to the gym for strenuous weightlifting five times per week, I sympathize with the need to pay attention to the body’s need for sufficient recovery. It’s also true that as we age our digestive system is less efficient at absorbing the nutrients we need, especially the micro-nutrients that too often are ignored, and thus our bodies aren’t getting the inputs they need in order to recover from serious exercise. It’s important, therefore, to supplement appropriately in order to ensure we’re absorbing the nutrients we need as well as resting when necessary to ensure proper recovery and muscle growth.
