A nice article, Yasmin, but it could have been worth noting that the biggest problem of all with current lithium-ion batteries is their reliance on cobalt, which is available only in very limited quantities and cannot possibly supply the world’s need as the number of electric vehicles manufactured continues to rise. Long, long before we experience problems with lithium supply, we’ll dead-end with cobalt. That’s the most important factor driving research into alternatives to lithium-ion batteries.
