A very nice article, Brenna. It’s great that you got out there and enjoyed it. I’ve hiked sections of the PCT but have not (yet) had time to hike it end-to-end. But when I do, I’ll be doing it the deeply unfashionable way: using my ex-military Bergen and robust gear that’s the opposite of ultralight trendy fashionable. But it will last longer than I shall, and it carries absolutely everything I’ll ever need for a multi-week hike. As for phones & entertainment, well, I’m so old I remember a time when people didn’t have the means to distract themselves every moment of their waking lives, and when I’m in the wilderness I want to savor it, not blanket it out with pulp entertainment. It’s bizarre that the PCT is now closed, but, c’est la vie apparently in these bizarre times.
