A very nice clear explanation of Special Relativity, and the puzzle (the inconsistency between Maxwell’s equations governing current and magnetic field) that led up to it. Laypeople often seem to assume that Einstein had a flash of genius that enabled Relativity to emerge sui generis but as you show clearly, a lot of previous work was required to set the stage. Without Lorenz’s prior work it would likely have taken Einstein longer to resolve the puzzle. Thanks!
