A very thorough and useful analysis. Amid all the media-generated hype about AI it's worth remembering that every major technology has triggered projections by experts and pundits alike that were totally wrong. It often takes many years before people learn to utilize new technologies in meaningful ways. As for the impact on society, what we've seen so far with social media is a race to the bottom as algorithms prioritize "engagement" which translates into mindless toxic mental slop. TikTok is merely the most recent manifestation (or infestation, depending on one's perspective) and it seems the appetite of ordinary people for the mental equivalent of McSlop triple-bypass burgers and Kentucky Fried Cancer is immeasurable. So doubtless AI will fine-tune mindless trash so that even more ordinary people will spend even more of their time gawping at toxic rubbish and then rushing out to vote for whoever the latest blustering infantile know-nothing demagogue has sent them the easiest-to-chant memes about free ice-cream forver.
