A very well-written piece, Jozua, and thankfully free of the cliched posturing so often presented in such pieces. The problem with the present debate is that, as so often happens with human beings, the strong advocates of "a person is whatever they say they are" blithely ignore the costs imposed on others by this posture. Which is as bad as the opposite position wherein adverse discrimination is ignored. Instead of attempting to grapple with the complexity of the issue, most people on all sides merely retreat into soundbites and intellectual infantilism. So your article is refreshing and very welcome.
