Although mainstream academics rubbished Terry Jones' book Chaucer's Knight, none were able to refute the key points he made within it. Chaucer's story is therefore a useful corrective to the Disney cliche most people carry around inside their heads, not least because it was written by a contemporary who knew all too well the cynical reality of these armored mercenaries.
