And of course a not-insignificant part of the problem is the fact the media depends on a constant stream of sensationalism in order to grab eyeballs which can then be monetized (usually via serving ads). We now live in a context-free world of constant fearmongering and distortion, all designed to attract the largest possible audience in order to achieve financial gain.

Instead of wising up to this phenomenon, people seem to be ever-more gullible and ever-more easy to terrify.

Our civilization has become the first to destroy itself in the pursuit of advertising revenue. What a sad and truly trite way to go.
