Another very useful but rarely used tool is intellectual analysis of the fundamental data pertinent to the situation. History shows us that it’s common for people to get worked into a panic for entirely the wrong reasons and then do entirely the wrong things, thus making everything far worse than it ought to have been. Pausing to think is a good practice that is, unfortunately, rarely practiced but which can enable us to avoid the various psychological harms resulting from uncritical absorption of endless media-driven sensationalism.
