Appeasement Rules!
How the West is, once again, looking to reward the aggressor and ignore the consequences
Thanks to ordinary human folly, no one ever learns anything from history. No matter how calamitous the lesson and no matter how many tens of millions of lives may be lost, we humans resolutely refuse to learn anything at all and we dedicate ourselves relentlessly to repeating the same old mistakes ad infinitum.
It’s not surprising, therefore, that after an extremely brief period of virtue signaling against Russia by means of utterly pointless sanctions and the delivery of a few small weapons systems to Ukraine, the West is now predictably fragmenting and the voices in favor of appeasement are growing ever stronger.
Now that Western voters are bored with the Ukraine story, which is neither as deliciously scary as the wonderful coronapanic off which news organizations dined for over two years, nor as photogenic as whatever vacuous celebrity scandal happens to be fashionable for a few hours, Western politicians are returning to their normal spineless flaccid true selves. Why bother to worry about abstractions like justice and other people’s lives when the easiest way to deal with the Ukraine problem is simply to give everything to Russia on a plate?
