As ageism leads to startups and organizations that still want to think of themselves as feisty startups (hello Apple, Google, Facebook, et al) rejecting senior engineers with many years of valuable experience, the corporate sector can benefit by hiring them at lower rates than they'd otherwise command, thus upskilling corporate IT groups considerably. And startups led by people clever enough not to be ageist can likewise benefit from talent that in a more rational (and non-existent) world would be contributing elsewhere.
