As civil aviation is without question by far the safest way to travel, with fewer fatalities per passenger-mile than any other form of transportation including walking, one wonders at the effort being deployed to solve a minor problem when millions of people are dying each year from personal incompetence. Specifically: incompetence at driving an automobile, incompetence at making adequate lifestyle choices and thus incurring unnecessary obesity and smoking related diseases, and incompetence at basic self-administration that ultimately leads to many accidental deaths around the home and workplace. These are surely far more pressing concerns that should be more adequately addressed.
