As the media was largely responsible for Trump's 2016 victory, it seems rather disingenuous to pretend to be wondering what to do about his lies when it's clear every editor in town saw those lies as a perfect way to grab eyeballs on a regular basis. That's why Trump got 85% of the coverage during the Republican primaries and 80% of the coverage during the race against Clinton. Trump was the gift that kept on giving and the media benefited even as individual journalists abhorred the content that was paying their salaries. A responsible media would have reported "today candidate Trump told yet more infantile lies in order to appeal to ignorant simple-minded people who harbor racist bigotry." But the media isn't responsible - it's in the business of generating sensationalism in order to ensure revenue streams. No sane society would permit the kind of media we have, but clearly we don't live in a sane society.
