As the tiny human brain seems unable to do anything other than fall into the trap of false oppositions, it's not entirely surprising that the abortion debate in the USA is hopelessly cynical on one side and infantile on the other.
Let's start with some obvious facts: so-called "pro life" activists clearly aren't pro-life at all because they don't give a damn what happens to the fetus after it's born. They support gun control and oppose social care for mothers. They are as pro-life as Hitler was. What they really are is pro-control over women's bodies.
In reality, if the USA wanted to reduce its abortion rate (among the very highest in the OECD and matched only by backward countries in which the Christian mythology holds sway) it has a simple solution: make contraception freely available to everyone who wants it.
This will never happen, of course, because the USA is locked into extreme religiosity and religionists pretend that normal human sexual behavior is abhorrent unless confined within a very narrow range of circumstances.
But if so-called "pro-life" people really were pro-life, they'd be backing free contraception instead of making it unobtainable.
