Aside from the fact that societies in which wealth is easily appropriated by force have levels of violence that make Chicago look like an ideal retirement home in comparison, and that life expectancy rarely exceeds four decades under such circumstances, we need to remember that (based on no evidence whatsoever) these were harmonious societies led by wise women who would never, ever, do anything naughty or harmful and whose benign influence ensured all the males in the tribe were equally benevolent and docile. We know this to be true because, well, um, ah.... oh yes, I know: because as there are no written or other records to prove otherwise, and because all our studies of surviving hunter-gatherer tribes (which refute my beliefs completely) are necessarily polluted by that very act of studying them, my assertions must be true!
