At least it was a reasonably painless way to learn a lesson. Very few people are worth traveling any great distance for, sight unseen. My second wife had a couple of similar experiences and decided that if the guy couldn’t make the effort to cover the distance he likely wasn’t worth her expending the effort on her side instead. It’s a rough heuristic but saves a lot of time and money. If one is going to be disappointed, better to be close to home and maybe even have a Plan B guy in mind as backup.
