Both Brexit and Trump are prime exhibits in the case against democracy. As the vast majority of voters are entirely ignorant of all matters of importance, and as most people aren't very bright, the idea that we should base our systems of governance - and the decisions thereby made - upon whatever soundbites can be manufactured to appeal to millions of empty-headed voters is quite simply insane.

Assuming we survive as a species, in hundreds or even thousands of years from now, historians will see 2016 as the year in which Western civilization voted to destroy itself. All that now follows is a consequence of the fact we failed to see that representative democracy needed to be replaced with something far more fit for purpose. Brexit is merely one symptom of a far deeper problem, just as the infantile orange creature Trump was merely a symptom too.
