Can AI understand human values? Aside from the fact that AI is just a bunch of pattern-recognition algorithms and not in any way even vaguely independent, I think the real problem is that we most desperately would not want AI to mimic human values. That would turn any AI application into a mindless racist mess, incapable of coherent action, indifferent to facts and reason, and in short just like the rest of humanity.
