Compared to all the deaths that accrue annually in the South from obesity-related disease such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, emphysema, and various cancers, the additional mortality induced by covid-19 will be only a little more than a rounding error. The South is sick in so many different ways that it’s a fantastic testimony to US dysfunction in every aspect of life.
