Europe Fails Again
Why the just-ended NATO summit was a predictable farce that leaves Europe impotent
There was something grotesque about watching European “leaders” grovel and crawl in an attempt to placate the infantile orange creature Trump, especially as anyone with even a fraction of a functional brain understands that Trump responds only to firmness and power. The self-imposed humiliation of Europe’s leaders will merely have convinced him of their total powerlessness and hence they will continue to be on the receiving end of his bullying tantrums until he finally simply walks away and leaves Europe to its inevitable fate under the New Russian Empire.
But that’s not the worst aspect of the NATO summit. European “leaders” are, after all, devoted to endless appeasement and so whether they’re appeasing Putin via the “let Ukraine lose slowly” pseudo-strategy or appeasing Trump by prostrating themselves at his feet, it’s all the same generic approach.
The worst aspect of the NATO summit was that it revealed in stark brutality what I’ve been writing here on Medium in countless articles: that the generic European playbook of windy speeches followed by little or no meaningful action is still firmly in place despite a consensus now that Russia (even enfeebled as it is) will launch a military invasion of one or more Baltic states…
