Everyone wants a quick-fix in our ADD world, and the danger of HIIT is not just the injuries it causes in those who embrace it too rapidly. The danger is that we fail to remember that mens sana in corpore sano isn't just about attempting to lower one's blood pressure or reduce the size of one's belly. One of the enormous benefits of running for an hour is the mental calm & clarity it induces - benefits that are just as important as the physiological elements stressed in HIIT. One of the enormous benefits of doing a 60-minute weights routine in the gym is the sustained mental focus you develop - just as important as the strengthened bones and ligaments and tendons. In reality most people have plenty of time to devote to daily exercise. They simply choose to spend that time on activities that harm, rather than help, them. Until people realize they don't actually need to spend all those hours slumped on the sofa gawping at electronic entertainments or catching up on what are in reality unimportant work emails and slack messages, HIIT and pills and all the other fix-it-fast stuff are merely band-aids. Until one's life is healthy, no quick-fix will really make a lasting difference.
