How Trump’s total destruction of the USA is enabled by tens of thousands of servile lackeys who will obey any order, just as their counterparts did in Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, and in every other dictatorship we’ve seen since then

Hannah Arendt’s phrase “the banality of evil” is worth remembering today, because evil is triumphing across the West. Trump and his slithering Republican enablers in the USA are simply the most visible sign, but the creeping festering poison is everywhere now. So it’s worth examining the way in which this evil spreads so easily through societies that not so long ago imagined themselves to be “free.”

The single most important fact to understand is that creatures such as Trump, Farage, Weidel, Orban, et al don’t rise to power by magic. In our wonderful world of qualification-free representative democracy they are voted into power by millions of eager “patriots” whose intellectual capacity is (to be as polite as possible) notable only by its total absence. Thus Trump and all the other vermin eager to destroy the very things upon which everyone depends for their safety and prosperity are merely symptoms of an approach to governance that is clearly utterly unfit for purpose.
