Evolution has hardwired us with behaviors that on average promote the passing of genes forward in time. We are, after all, at base gene replication machines. As a young woman has more potential to give birth to more offspring than an older woman, it follows that men will be hardwired to prefer younger women. This is true even if there is no conscious intention of having more children - our instincts care little for our notions of what we want. Of course, we now have complex cultures and societies with a variety of laws that have emerged more or less haphazardly over millennia, and so the obvious is often obscured - not least, these days, by inane politically correct babble that has no basis in reality. Whenever one looks at human behavior, the least fallible approach is to consider it from an evolutionary perspective, because millions of years of selection pressures are a more reliable guide than transient fashionable psychobabble.
