Most people today are overweight. This simple fact is a terrible indictment of our modern way of life. Most people don’t want to be overweight, but nevertheless they will live out their lives carrying far too much health-harming fat and will suffer the many chronic ailments that are caused by excess weight. Many will try fad diets that invariably will not only fail but which will actually cause them to gain even more fat when they stop attempting to pursue the regimen.

Meanwhile, here I am in my dotage, these days little more than an ambulating sac of unsightly wrinkles, but in better physical condition than nearly everyone I know.

How is this possible?

Despite my often caustic writing style, I have enormous sympathy for those who perpetually struggle unsuccessfully with excess weight. Our modern world is replete with perverse incentives and inducements that lead most people into the fat trap and, once snared, keep them there forever. This article will attempt to explain how I avoid succumbing to the fat trap and thereby live a happy, healthy, and fulfilled life.
