For a start, the USA is already finished and representative democracy is clearly unfit for purpose. But the meta-picture aside, Trump is likely to win enough votes from all the mindless dullards that his cheating will merely be icing on the cake. The real point, however, is this: if representative democracy can collapse into tyranny simply because a mindless infantile imbecile is unwilling to play by the rules and there's absolutely nobody to stop him, why should we think any continuation of representative democracy is worthwhile? Surely the problem isn't Trump - he's merely a symptom of a totally failed system. The problem is our unreasoning attachment to a discredited method of governance. So in the end it doesn't actually matter if Trump clings on to the White House or not. The system is worthless; worthless systems generate worthless representatives.
