Why the US delusion about factory jobs has crippled the nation

Whether you’re talking to a Democrat or to a MAGA Moron, the consensus is the same: the USA needs to restore factory jobs so the nation can return to the 1950s. If you’re a MAGA Moron you think other nations have “stolen” US jobs; if you’re a lefty-trendy you think it was the billionaires who exported US jobs nefariously. Either way, the consensus is clear: the USA has to return to the 1950s when ill-educated white men could earn enough to pay for a house and buy a huge gas-guzzling automotive deathtrap.

US citizens are famously ignorant of every matter of importance, and when it comes to economics the picture is even more dire. More than 90% of US citizens think the president controls the price of petrol at the pump. So it’s not surprising that even the most well-intentioned US citizens are totally clueless about reality. What follows is an article from this week’s Economist magazine that provides a fact-based picture of reality.

Warning: if you’re a US citizen, what follows will refute every single one of your pre-packaged soundbite beliefs.
