The question of Einar’s whereabouts was answered two days later when, to Frankie’s surprise, the door to her hospital room opened and Einar walked in with the Secret Service agent whose name, she now knew because he’d told her the previous day, was Agent Farkley.

“Einar!”
“My dear young woman!”

Somewhat to Einar’s discomfort, Frankie jumped up from the bed and ran to him and embraced him. Eventually he gently extricated himself from her arms and gave her a somewhat awkward kiss on the cheek.

“It’s so very good to see you. Have they been, ah, treating you well?”
“Apart from the time they came and asked the same stupid questions over and over, yeah. I’m bored as hell, but otherwise okay. The food sucks, though.”

“It always does in these places.”

Frankie glanced at Agent Farkley, who was leaning against the wall by the door.

“Can we talk?” she whispered to Einar.

“About some things,” he replied. “They’ve been, ah, interrogating me rather thoroughly over the last few days and I have honestly told them all the important details. There’s even a chance someone believes me.”
