From anecdotal experience (mine, and those of several friends) it seems the major impediment to finding someone in real life is the fact that nearly everyone now uses online dating merely as a means by which to obtain tiny dopamine jolts rather than as a means by which to navigate towards in-person encounters. Each person who “likes” us or messages us enabled us to feel briefly satisfied without any of the risk or fear of a real encounter. And as most people use out-of-date pictures and provide false information about age etc. real life meetings are precluded from the outset. Today we satisfy ourselves with the illusion of popularity via countless dating apps and substitute this pale shadow for the riches of real-world interaction.
