According to the extremely naïve, electric vehicles (EVs) are supposed to “save the planet” yet require no personal sacrifice by any of us in order to accomplish this putative goal. So beguiling is this soundbite narrative that no one cares about the many practical problems that will ensure the Grand Vision comes far, far later and in a more piecemeal way than its boosters imagine. But we aren’t here today to talk about the total lack of generation and distribution capability, nor the fact that many people don’t have a dedicated parking space in which to recharge their EVs overnight. We’re not even going to talk about the fact that EVs are actually more polluting than conventionally-powered vehicles. And we’re definitely not going to talk about the fact that EVs are a totally unsuitable approach for long-distance haulage and aviation (which is why so many electric aircraft companies have been going out of business over the last twelve months).

Nope, we’re not going to talk about any of that because we’re here today to address a major issue: the declining sales of EVs in North America.
