Given the statistical probability of an extinction-size asteroid hitting the Earth within the next few thousand years is almost zero, we have far more important things to worry about. We are likely to exterminate ourselves as a species long before any asteroid shows up; moreover, we're already causing the next great extinction event ourselves. So worrying about space debris is an amusing indulgence but irrelevant to our real problems.
