Good for you. I suspect you can either be a writer or you can be a Hollywood screenwriter, but you can never be both for the reasons you so clearly articulate in your piece. Hollywood (I use the term generically for all US entertainment) is about product, and is a world in which large egos are coupled to tiny minds. Perhaps you’d have had slightly better luck approaching Working Title or former Merchant Ivory folk? Or trying to get a theatrical version performed in the UK?
