Hello Mitchell - as always, a highly pertinent comment. The joy of science, for me, is that it is a perpetual journey of discovery. We must assume our present understanding is provisional and, in many areas, likely to be flawed. Yet it is still infinitely superior to any other way to approach reality. Empty assertions by purported authority figures, based on nothing more than wishful thinking or some primitive dogma, have no value whatsoever. Our problem with science arises only when we imagine "science" to be some infallible source of wisdom handed down from on high - the generic public view. If we were better at understanding the limitations of science we might, perhaps, be more inclined to attempt to think through potential consequences of any actions based "on the science" instead of simply rushing off to burn whatever witches the mass media tells us have been identified by "science" and therefore must now be eradicated in a blaze of complacent ignorance.
