I avoid social media because I’d rather live my life, but I am aware that a lot of people use it as a substitute for life. Therefore it seems to be a Darwinian process. One might almost argue that therefore we should sit back and let those who are simple-minded enough to be influenced by social media pay the inevitable consequences.
The drawback with this approach, of course, is that young children are insufficiently developed to recognize when they are being manipulated and gulled. So we do need some sort of regulation, but it’s obvious the USA will be the very last nation on Earth to introduce anything that is effective in preventing large corporations from exploiting ordinary people in the endless pursuit of profit at any cost.
