I don’t want to sound critical but I can’t help thinking your examples of “honoring yourself” are simply the first set of statements dressed up in more politically correct language. Both sets of statements “If you cheat I’ll leave you” and “you’re welcome to sleep with other people but that’s not the kind of relationship I want” are clearly intended to achieve the same goal, which is to secure monogamous commitment from the other person in order to avoid dealing with issues that would arise in a less restrictive relationship. Perhaps it would be more useful to think about why non-monogamy is so alarming instead of merely reformulating old attempts at restriction?
