I think it's charming to imagine that Musk, whose lack of rudimentary impulse control is legendary, has a "master plan" for Twitter. Let's be honest: you don't create a powerful new platform by (a) screwing up the basics - anyone remember the pay-to-authenticate fiasco? - and by losing 80% of the staff you rely on to keep the basics going.

Musk is imploding and taking Twitter down with him, not majestically striding into the future with yet another half-baked grandiose vision. It's time to drop the naive fanboy adulation and take a long hard look at the reality of the situation
