Later, people would panic en masse and most would die either from the results of obesity-related high blood pressure or at the hands of others. Governments would talk about preparing, but then squabble over pork-barrel spending, and nothing would actually get done.

In short, we'd behave precisely as we always do, and hasten our own well-deserved end.
