I’m not sure you should be beating yourself up over your virtual affair. You were in a terrible relationship and you were looking for something you could pull on, like a rope, to help you get out of the cold water before you drowned. There’s rarely a perfect route out of a bad marriage and it’s generally a mistake to apply canned morality, especially of the US sort, to complex and emotionally intense situations.
