In my own experience I've found nearly everyone can be a great deal more sexu-flexible than they imagine, if they're given the chance. The only thing that surprises me about the 59% claim is that it is so low. I've been fortunate enough to have had several hundred lovers (no idea why, as I'm neither handsome nor rich) and although obviously mine is a biased sample it's nevertheless true that at least 75% of the women I've slept with have expressed an interest in same-sex experimentation. Today, it's easier than ever for people to acknowledge this desire, especially in European countries that are notably far less sexually repressed and neurotic than the overly-religious USA.
