Intolerance Uber Alles
How the Internet has encouraged us to reduce everything to toxic soundbites
Although I do my best to keep a healthy distance from nearly everything purporting to be news and social commentary, whether on social media or conveyed via old-style organizations, it is impossible these days to escape the fact that we live in a world of intolerance fostered by the instant-scream culture of the Internet.
On the far-right the Jesus-babblers imagine their crude mythology is the only thing that will “save” humanity and they are perfectly happy to scream vitriol at anyone attempting to support basic human rights, such as a woman’s right to control her own reproductive capacity. On the far-left the overly excited Waffen SS of PC culture are going ever further into a fascist quagmire in which absolutely everything can and will be used to “prove” a person is worthy of the purest hatred.
The far-right make no apology for their brutalist interpretation of life, in which the only thing that matters is devotion to their invisible magical pixie and some childish notion of “patriotism” (e.g. support what the furthest-right political Party does). The far-left, however, prefer to dress up their intolerance and anger in the garb of being “pro” various things such as gender equality, LGBT+ rights, etc. much as Stalin and Mao…
