It is easy to mock the risible infantile fantasies of silly people like Musk and trans-humanists, with their simple-minded one-dimensional "visions" of the future. But most people simply sleepwalk through their lives, believing whatever they are told, and rarely if ever attempting to perform true thinking. The idea that "progress" has become the new religion is therefore spurious, a straw man that is set up merely in order to be knocked down. While that is a standard rhetorical device, it's not actually very helpful, especially in the realm of philosophy which already relies far too much on mere assertions and far too little on the relevant empirical data science, in its flawed yet ultimately fruitful way, has uncovered.
