It is hardly fair to criticize Zelensky for doing what little he can to maintain fickle Western drip-feed support of Ukraine. The reality is that we in the West are fat complacent self-centered morons who can't recognize an existential threat even when it's hitting us in the face. The USA and the UK signed a binding agreement in 1994 to guarantee the territorial integrity of Ukraine in return for Ukraine handing over 1,000 nuclear weapons inherited from the collapse of the USSR. And then, the USA and the UK failed completely to abide by this agreement. Since Putin's invasion of 2022, the West has consistently dithered and prevaricated, and has failed entirely to do anything meaningful.

We have consistently failed to supply Ukraine with what it needs, when it needed it. So of course Ukraine's situation is dire - especially with the fascist US Republican Party blocking all further aid, Biden dithering and failing as he always does, and Hungary's Orban blocking EU aid.

What else can Zelensky do except to stage Hollywood-style stunts in the hope of briefly capturing fickle Western attention long enough to unblock some vital aid? Zelensky can't make us any less stupid and complacent. He's in a very bad position and is doing what he can to make it fractionally less bad.

But in the end, we're the ones entirely to blame for the fact Russia will emerge from this conflict dramatically stronger as a result of NATO being shown to be pointless and incapable of action when it counts. And that's not Zelensky's fault. It is entirely ours.
