It is impossible to argue that religions "teach people to do good" and "show the right path in life." Such claims presuppose some notion of absolute morality, which the trolley car problem demonstrates clearly is impossible. Thus, as all mortality is relative, religions ultimately cause great harm because they insist on their particular notion of morality and thus demonize any alternative notions. This, given human nature, always leads to great unpleasantness eventually. It's long past time we grew up as a species and ceased our infantile - and rather tedious - invention of mummy and daddy gods, ghouls, and goblins.
