It seems inevitable that the West will sacrifice Ukraine in the totally mistaken belief that this will appease Putin. A better strategy would be to pour thousands of "volunteers" into Ukraine, equipped with top-rank materiel such as F22 Raptors, AWACS, Apache tank-killer helicopters, and as many tier one operators as possible. Then deny they have anything to do with NATO by stating plainly that they are precisely the kind of heavily-equipped volunteers who invaded Krim and Donbass from Russia and thus in no way anything whatsoever to do with official Western government policy.

Putin would then have to decide whether to accept near-annihilation of his forces in a bloody and unpredictable full-on conflict with the West or to climb down and face almost certainly being deposed by some of his former bodyguards.

But as it is, Putin will likely humiliate the West, partition Ukraine, and rest up for a while before Orban invites Russian forces to come in to Hungary. From there the Czech Republic would be impossibly tempting, but of course the appetizer will be the Baltic states...
