It seems to me that in the West we're so ignorant and so spoiled and so self-obsessed that we're practically incapable of grasping how astonishingly fortunate 95% of us are. A good remedy would be compulsory homelessness for a month with no resources to call on - that would rapidly provide some much-needed perspective.
