It took decades before governments were willing to reduce rates of smoking, and the tobacco industry had far fewer defenders than is the case with junk food. I would guess that it will take a century or more before any US government dares address the problem of foisting profoundly unhealthy slop on US consumers - and another fifty years before any reduction in consumption of slop occurs. And consumers will fight it every step of the way, thus making it easier for the purveyors of slop to continue to make profits by slowly poisoning hundreds of millions of people every day.
