It was just as important that Fiat finally learned how to make vehicles that don't break down every five minutes and don't require extraction of the engine to change the spark plugs. Marketing is nice, but even US citizens eventually sour on unreliable clunkers. Just ask JaguarLandRover, whose sales continue to disappoint year after year because everyone knows they look lovely but often break down before you've even left the dealership lot.
