It's a rather sobering thought that most US citizens now are so clueless - but not really surprising. Years of Republican under-funding of education combined with Democrat-backed union opposition to introducing meaningful teaching reform has left the USA with an educational system that in its primary and secondary tiers is utterly unfit for purpose. PISA scores regularly show how low the USA has fallen, with some States like Mississippi and Alabama scoring below countries like Ethiopia and Somalia.

The US citizenship test is absurdly easy. When I took mine, 30+ years ago, I was asked, "what form of government does the USA have?" I began by explaining it was a tripartite system in which power was divided in such a way as to attempt to reduce the unbridled power of any one function. At this point, the flustered examiner interrupted and pleaded, "No, no, please! It is a democracy, or a totalitarian regime?"

In 2025, when Trump waddles his way back into the White House, they'll have to update the correct answer to that particular question.
